Connecting with our counselors

Updated: Dec 21, 2025

At A Certain Man, we understand that navigating mental and emotional challenges—especially when they go unrecognized or untreated—can feel isolating for young Black and Brown boys and the families who support them. Connecting with the right support at the right time can be life-changing.

Through our Connecting With Our Counselors initiative, we serve as a bridge to care, helping families access trusted, culturally responsive mental health professionals who are equipped to listen, guide, and support.

What This Connection Looks Like

  • Confidential guidance and referrals to licensed counselors and mental health professionals

  • Culturally informed support that acknowledges lived experiences, identity, and community context

  • Family-centered engagement, ensuring parents and guardians are part of the support process when appropriate

  • Early-intervention focus, helping address concerns before they escalate

Our Role

A Certain Man does not diagnose or provide clinical treatment. Instead, we:

  • Help individuals and families recognize when support may be needed

  • Connect them to qualified mental health professionals

  • Reduce stigma by normalizing conversations around mental wellness

  • Advocate for timely, appropriate, and compassionate care

A Safe First Step

Reaching out can feel difficult. Our approach is grounded in respect, confidentiality, and dignity, creating a safe first step toward support. Whether the need is immediate or exploratory, our goal is to ensure no child or family has to navigate these challenges alone.

If you or someone you care for may benefit from speaking with a counselor, we encourage you to connect with us. Support begins with a conversation—and that conversation can begin here.
